Without any tread pattern, of course, it has seriously compromised wet traction (although this actually improves dry traction), but the tag axle only serves to carry load, it has no role in moving or steering the vehicle (and a very minor role in braking -- many tag axles have no brakes at all, although ours does).

That said, if you go back through the archives you will see where we've actually worn tires down to the belts, at least partially, and that potentially is a "maypop."Seanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17930398671280529448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6208406.post-91175471555541288962009-08-24T21:11:27.063-04:002009-08-24T21:11:27.063-04:00We call tires that look like that 'Maypops'...We call tires that look like that 'Maypops'Over the Cubicle Wallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04842722161649016062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6208406.post-552619805525753052009-08-24T20:58:41.233-04:002009-08-24T20:58:41.233-04:00Glad to hear you are on the mend. Having just gone through my first root canal I've become hyper-focused on all things dental.

I've been reading your blog for some time. It has given me many ideas for future adventures. How to address health issues on the road would be a concern that could easily be overlooked.

Steve (was @anonymous)steve1066bphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04134504590358873483noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6208406.post-37230567977259235692009-08-24T20:23:11.278-04:002009-08-24T20:23:11.278-04:00@Anonymous: Turns out I had a gum infection. The downside is that the rinse has made my tastebuds go dormant. Everything tastes very bland, but that should go away when I finish the meds.

Thanks for your concern!Louisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06306854459459257368noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6208406.post-12749787369580205722009-08-24T17:38:01.979-04:002009-08-24T17:38:01.979-04:00Not to be too nosey . . . but what happened at the...Not to be too nosey . . . but what happened at the dentist?
