We are back on the road again after a 68 day deployment with the American Red Cross in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We left disaster relief headquarters yesterday after lunch in order to be here in Beaumont in time for dinner with our friends last night. As it turns out, we ended up pushing through a driving rainstorm a good part of the way, and tornado warnings in the southern part of Louisiana forced us to choose the slower but more northerly route of US190 to LA12 to TX12 rather than the more direct I-10 as we had planned. Nevertheless, we made it here safely and in time for a wonderful dinner at the nearby Poblano Grill.
We are parked at the Wal-Mart (map) closest to our friends' home and office, in the exact spot we occupied when we were here in January. Today we will proceed west through Houston and on toward Austin. We are en-route ultimately to Death Valley for the holidays.
We have many more memories and even some photos to share from our experience in Louisiana, but right now we are itching to get under way.
