On the Eel river

We are at the Benbow RV Resort, across the highway from the Benbow Inn (map).

It's off-season here, and so we are in one of the riverside, 50-amp "VIP" spaces for a fairly reasonable $29 (plus $3 for the dog - ouch). Even so, regular readers will know that it is uncharacteristic for us to stay in commercial RV parks of any stripe.

We're here because we wanted to have dinner at the Benbow Inn, a wonderful little place where we've stayed in years past (as we rode by on our motorcycles). It's a four-star property, with a restaurant to match, in a historic Tudor-style building that is decidedly un-Californian. While the RV park (and golf course) in on the opposite side of US101 from the Inn, it's just a short stroll along the Eel and under the river overcrossing.

We had a nice dinner, and we had the dining room all to ourselves for a good part of it. If you want to check the place out without ponying up for either a room or dinner, the hotel serves the traditional English tea and scones at 3pm, $8 for those not staying in the hotel. Definitely worth the stop.

Tonight will be our last night on the road before arriving in the bay area. We'll try to stop somewhere around Cloverdale.
