Home of the Pismo Clam

We are at the Elks lodge in Oceano, California (map), just south of Pismo Beach. Yesterday afternoon we backtracked the seven miles here from Spyglass Park in Shell beach, north of Pismo, where we watched the Delta-IV launch from Vandenberg. Even at a distance of 40 miles, the launch was pretty impressive. We could see the glow of the main engines well into the flight, and the rocket left a smoke trail miles high.
We've been here before, and while it is a bit cramped for our taste, it's the best deal in the Pismo Beach area. After getting settled in we pulled the scooters out and rode over to Giuseppe's Restaurant in downtown Pismo -- highly recommended. The lodge's RV area is only about half full, but the other parks we passed seemed pretty crowded, including the state park, the county park, and the three commercial RV resorts on the road into town.
Now that our batteries are fully charged and we have a half tank of clean fresh water, we'll head north. I had hoped to take the coast route, but the whole coast is under a high wind advisory, so we'll take the inland route along US-101 instead.
