More holiday visits

We are at the Elks lodge in Santa Clarita, California (map). They actually have a full-hookup campground here, but it is full (well, it looks as if much of it has been given over to long-term storage), so we are in a gravel parking lot. This suits us fine -- the campground is really unappealing, and we don't need the hookups, so staying in the parking lot for free is better for us.

We are here because Louise has cousins just a few miles from here. There is no place for us to park close to their house, and this was close by and a known quantity. We had a nice visit over the last two days with her cousins and her dad and step-mom, who are also down visiting from Monterey.

We do have quite a few other people here in southern California that we could be visiting, but we have committed ourselves to be in the bay area tomorrow evening, so we will be blasting out of here today. We'll be back soon enough, though, so don't despair if you are in the area and have been hoping to see us.

The weather here has been pleasant, with temperatures in the 60's and dry, if a bit overcast. Unfortunately, the same can not be said for the bay area, which will be in the grip of a rather nasty storm system for the next few days. We are bracing ourselves, since we still have several fairly bad leaks that we can't seem to get rid of.

  1. Sean-- is it just me, or has anyone else commented that the map links are not working? Clicking on the link takes me to a Mapquest page, with map coordinates displayed, and the border for the map, but nothing appears in the actual map space. Tried it with AOL/IE and with Firefox, with same results. Just curious. -- JRC
