Thursday Tips: Shower Squeegee

Thursday is tip day.

It is hot and humid here in south Texas this time of year. After spending 20 years in California, we just aren't used to such dampness. Mold and mildew are constant travel companions here. I'll admit that my skin is less dry, though.

One thing that helps keep the moisture down in the RV is to get as much water from the shower off the walls and down the drain as soon as possible. We have a squeegee attached to the shower with a suction cup for just this purpose. It is the job of the last person who showers to wipe the excess water off the walls of the shower enclosure. We happen to have glass on two sides and some plastic stuff on the other two, but both squeegee quite nicely.

An added bonus to this routine is that there is less build up of soap scum and hard water spotting, so we don't have to scrub the shower stall as often. No chemicals are needed, just the little rubber blade. The squeegee-ing only takes 45 seconds (I timed it) and makes the glass look sparkling clean, so is really rather rewarding. Plus, you get your deep knee bends done for the day.

Caution! If your shower is so small that you leave butt-prints on the opposite wall as you wield the squeegee, this technique may not work for you.
